I am voting for John McCain…No, really I am VOTING FOR JOHN McCAIN.
It wasn’t as tough of a decision as I’d thought it might be. I am voting for John McCain for President this November, and you should, too.
Well, after months of bashing the esteemed Senator from Arizona during the primary season, and being one who thought of staying home this November, I have come around and I am proudly supporting Sen. John McCain for President.
I know what some of you guys are thinking, “He stuck us with Campaign Finance Reform”, and he is responsible for the gang of 13 that sided with the Democrats in blocking President Bush’s judicial nominees. He also is the only Republican who got caught up in the “Keating Five” debacle of the 80s.
I believe in redemption and forgiveness, so I am forgiving Senator McCain for his transgressions. He’s sticking his finger in the eye of conservatives, for all his faults (and we all have faults). He does have several redeeming qualities.
He is a fighter, and he never surrenders. The first proof is his eight years as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton while Bill Clinton was smoking pot and dodging the draft in England. Also, while Sen. John Kerry was lying to Congress about US servicemen in Vietnam, Sen. McCain was sacrificing for his country. This is almost reason enough to let him be President. But he is a fighter. Last November, yours truly had even written off John McCain. I was taking bets on whether or not he would drop out before Thanksgiving or before Christmas, and he did neither. Again, Sen. McCain stuck it out when his campaign was falling apart – he braved the cold of New Hampshire and stuck to it. As a result, to my chagrin, he won the New Hampshire primary.
Sen. McCain doesn’t know the meaning of surrender. He didn’t surrender in Vietnam and he didn’t surrender his campaign to the naysayers late last fall.
Now, ask yourself, who would you want at the helm of the Ship of State during the war on terror? Sen. Obama, who threw his pastor under the bus as soon as things started to heat up? Or Sen. Clinton, who would through her own mother to the wolves if it meant she’d get a few more votes? I think not.
Sen. McCain may not know much about economic issues; however, he does understand that you don’t raise taxes in troubled times. He understands that if you tax those who create the jobs, the jobs will dry out. That tax on corporate America will trickle down to Joe Taxpayer. Sen. McCain took Grover Norquist’s pledge not to raise taxes. I think he has learned from his mistakes of not supporting President Bush’s tax cut. Sen. McCain also wants to end all ear marks for pet projects for members of Congress. I think if he accoplishes those two things, the economy will be just fine.
Sen. McCain also understands foreign policy better then any other candidate running for President. You have one candidate who is making up stories about her foreign policy experience when she was First Lady. Oh, the bullets were whizzing buy the cocktail party; or I had tea with PM, Bhutto. Sorry Sen. Clinton, that doesn’t qualify you for being a foreign affairs expert…nor does your husbands foreign affairs. Then you have Sen. Obama: if traveling to foreign countries makes you a foreign affairs expert, well, Ricky Nelson could be a foreign affairs expert. Or I could be a foreign affairs expert for that matter – in my 17 years alive, I have been to Poland, Germany, Greece, England, Ireland, Japan, China, Russia, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Canada. Sadly, that doesn’t qualify me.
Also, I believe we have seen the Obama movie before…it’s called the Carter Years. You remember how great those days were.
From the Right!
We on the right don’t thirst for war, but we do step up to defend the country when we are attacked. Progressives, have you forgotten 9-11 – that clear blue sky day?
Also, tell me do you really want the same people that run the DMV to be qualified to run health care? Do you really want to go to one window to get a number, and then when you get there they send you to another line like the DMV? I should hope not. Do you really want a waiting list for getting health care like in the old Soviet Empire, Candida or Europe? I know Progressives like to talk about the bus of seniors that go to Candida, but you never seem to hear about the bus from Candida that brings seniors to America to have surgery done here, because in Candida they’d be dead by the time their number came up in line.
Environmental policy – do you know it was President Nixon (you know the guy you say was a worse President then Clinton) who established the EPA? It was Republican Teddy Roosevelt who gave us National Parks. It was Republicans who ended segregation. It took a Republican President to end slavery. It took a Republican to end the Cold War and send Communism to the Ash heap of History. It was Republicans who led the effort that routed out Communist-backed government in Nicaragua, and Communist insurgents in El Salvador, Angola, Lebanon, Granada, South Korea and Greece. It was a Republican President who drove Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. It was a Republican President who stood up to the tyrant of the Middle East, Muammar Gaddafi. It was a Republican President who extended the hand of friendship to the new democracies of Eastern Europe and former Soviet Occupied territories. It was a Republican who pushed for the Balance Budget Amendment. It is Republicans who support Tort Reform. It is Republicans who want to fix Social Security. It is Republicans who want to cut the Federal Gas tax, and it is the Democrats that want to give NO RELIEF TO AMERICANS from high gas prices.
That’s what you get with Republican Leadership!
President Carter sat back idle while our allies in Iran the Shah were overthrown, which gave us Islamic Militants. Hence, as a result, we have the War on Terror today against al Qaeda – it was President Carter who gave us that. Oh, but wait, there is more – Jimmy Carter did nothing while Poe Pot butchered his people. Think that was bad enough? President Carter gave away the Panama Canal. I suppose we should be thankful he didn’t give Alaska back to the Soviet Empire.
Let’s look at the highest of all progressives – he gave us things like Social Security and Medicare, he gave away Eastern Europe to suffer under the heel of the Soviet Empire for 50 years. Can you guess who this brilliant leader is that the Progressives worship? Any idea? Yep, that’s right, none other then Franklyn Roosevelt – the guy who did nothing while the NAZI were on the march in Europe.
President Truman, who allowed for continued communist expansion in Eastern Europe and who gave the Communists their first victory on the Korean Peninsula by firing Gen. McArthur. It was President Johnson who fabricated the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Now that was a President who dummied up facts to expand his war. It was Clinton who fell asleep at the wheel when terrorists were plotting to kill Americans. It was Clinton who never took Osama bin Laden when he was offered by the government of Sudan. It was Clinton who did nothing in the Congo.
So you see, I will take Republican leadership over Democrat bungling any day of the week. Similar Progressives have opposed anything that smacks of out-of-the-box thinking, like School Choice, Vouchers, Tort Reform, Balance Budget Amendment, Right to Work laws, a move towards Nuclear Power, drilling in ANWR, building new refineries and many other innovative new ideas. The Republican Party is the only party that gives real new ideas, as opposed to just retreading old failed policies of the left.
As for minorities in the GOP, well frankly we have more minorities in the GOP than the Democrat party since we allow our minorities to have a place at the table instead of Democrats who use them like a tool. When they need the tool, they go to the wood shed for that tool. With the Democratic Party, if you are a minority you are still at the back of the bus, as opposed to the Republican Party, who let you ride in first class.
